Nija Torrence is the Regional Tourism Marketing Manager for Explore Georgia, a division of the
Georgia Department of Economic Development. Explore Georgia’s mission is to inspire travelers
to choose Georgia as a destination and to help connect travelers to all of Georgia’s destinations
and experiences. Nija focuses on meeting industry professionals to learn about their Georgia
products and assist them with their tourism marketing on a state scale to gain brand awareness
and increase travel spending in their communities.
Nija works with partners of all sizes and levels of visitors. Working with a team of four to divide
the state, Nija works most directly in Atlanta Metro, West Central, and Middle Georgia. With
former roles in visitor services, administration, and sales, she loves to help partners become
more tourism-ready or even to just enhance their exposure. Most recently, she represented the
state of Georgia as the Regional Visitor Services Manager helping DMOs across the state align
their visitor center operations similar to the State Visitor Information Centers.
Nija is a Georgia native and graduated from Strayer University with a bachelor’s degree in
hospitality and tourism management and from Louisiana State University Shreveport with a
master’s degree in business administration. She is also a certified Tourism Marketing
Professional (TMP). Her goal is to meet with every tourism partner in her regions and continue
checking things off her expansive Georgia bucket list.
